Unfortunately, after the good news that there is no delay for the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 there is now some bad news for the PC based fans of the Call of Duty franchise. Surprisingly, Modern Warfare 2 will not have dedicated servers or Mod Tools for the PC community.
The Multiplayer matchmaking side of Modern Warfare 2 will be handled by something Infinity Ward are calling IWNet. By building up its own matchmaking service riding shotgun with Steam, “you can get in and play with players your same rank,” Bowling said. However, “You’re completely reliant on IWNet and there is no dedicated server or server list. You rely on IW Net for matchmaking and your games, but you still have your private matches.”
402 – “”It’s definitely going to be a change. It’s going to be a very different setup than what we’re previously used to in the Call of Duty franchise for the PC, In the long term it’s going to help the community. It changes the way and how we’re able to update and support the PC version.”
This is pretty serious, the PC guys can kiss goodbye to custom maps, server lists and big team games and say hello to Peer2Peer, matchmaking and lag! Not to mention how this will affect the competitive gaming scene. Check out the Podcast where Bowling drops the bomb.
For the console gamers amongst us here is a quote from a disgruntled PC gamer that pretty much sums up what has been taken from them.
If you have never played on a PC, and your multiplayer experience has only been delivered to you via matchmaking, then you will never really understand. But try to imagine a host hosting a game while never turning his console off, and you can always reach that room and play there whenever you want, night or day, because its always on. Now imagine that host has a Pentagon grade internet connection and his X360 can handle 64 players in that room. On top of that, the guy whos the host is actually resurrected Ghandi, so you will all be treated with respect, anyone using racial slurs, being offensive or just detrimental to gameplay experience via TKing or exploiting glitches, is going to be removed from that server forever.
Now imagine dozens and dozens of custom maps running on that server, which you will get for free, because IWs not making them. Then imagine entire communities and forums built around that one room (server). You recognize people who visit that same room, you befriend them, you have fun with these familiar folks.
The story goes on, and thats what were missing. All of it is gone.
At the time of writing there are 27,600 signature’s on this online petition. If you feel strongly about this issue head over there and sign it yourself. [UPDATE - 24 hours after writing this article there are now 76,087 signature's on the petition]

This is a bunch of bollocks. While I’m sure Infinity Ward is merely Activision’s puppet in this matter, it still screws PC gamers over and therefore sucks a wet ass.
The saddest part is that odds are it won’t matter at all. Selection bias says there’s probably a 20:1 ratio of people who don’t care about these goings on versus those who do. The game will probably still sell well on PC, IW will deem their new system a success, and PC gamers will continue to get f**ked.

guys (@ pcgamers) this is sad. i listend to the podcast. it’s real. as far as i see it, this can only go two ways for us, this “no dedicated or server list” system will either have a buddy list which will make it half as good (which is still bad) as the old system or not, which will make it r****ded, just like the console players like it. hey, it’s not our fault if u guys (@console players) r too stupid or too slow to handle a mouse and keyboard. it’s good that u have your own systems though. it’s good that u won’t bother us with your stupidity and your newbishness. i’m really happy about that. just, stay in your s**t holes! thks.

Surely this means things like aimbots and other such cheats will be kept to a minimum. PC gamers are complaining because they will have the same experience as console gamers? you clearly dont know how mods work… on the PC version you can choose if you want to go to a regular server OR a modded server, where are mods like star wars etc. They have never ruined the experience, only made COD4 better. Besides matchmaking will not decrease hackers, Punkbuster already was good enough. Only a few times i have EVER seen a hacker. Also most servers got admins which will ban them. Now that these admins are gone there will be more hackers… And with P2P servers PB will be also gone too… way to go IW

my games on xbox hardly ever lag out. And in case u been sleeping under a rock no one will be lagged out on mw2 unless its there own s**tty connection cuz mw2 has host migration incase the lobby leader quits or lags out. And 5v5 u obviously know nothing ground war holds 18 players and most other modes hold 12-16 players. And i wasn’t mocking pc’s in general artard, i was mocking whiny pc gamers cuz all they do is b***h when the gaming community forgets about them. Theres a reason why too…pc game sales will make up maybe 5% of sales on mw2 so thats why anything invovling u losers gets pushed to the back of the line. And if that means the pc version getting delayed so they can focus on the console versions than thats an easy decision for infity ward. f**k ALL NEWBS AND PEEPS WHO USE JUGERNAUT!!!!
