No Dedicated Servers For PC
Unfortunately, after the good news that there is no delay for the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 there is now some bad news for the PC based fans of the Call of Duty franchise. Surprisingly, Modern Warfare 2 will not have dedicated servers or Mod Tools for the PC community.
The Multiplayer matchmaking side of Modern Warfare 2 will be handled by something Infinity Ward are calling IWNet. By building up its own matchmaking service riding shotgun with Steam, “you can get in and play with players your same rank,” Bowling said. However, “You’re completely reliant on IWNet and there is no dedicated server or server list. You rely on IW Net for matchmaking and your games, but you still have your private matches.”

This is pretty serious, the PC guys can kiss goodbye to custom maps, server lists and big team games and say hello to Peer2Peer, matchmaking and lag! Not to mention how this will affect the competitive gaming scene. Check out the Podcast where Bowling drops the bomb.
For the console gamers amongst us here is a quote from a disgruntled PC gamer that pretty much sums up what has been taken from them.
If you have never played on a PC, and your multiplayer experience has only been delivered to you via matchmaking, then you will never really understand. But try to imagine a host hosting a game while never turning his console off, and you can always reach that room and play there whenever you want, night or day, because its always on. Now imagine that host has a Pentagon grade internet connection and his X360 can handle 64 players in that room. On top of that, the guy whos the host is actually resurrected Ghandi, so you will all be treated with respect, anyone using racial slurs, being offensive or just detrimental to gameplay experience via TKing or exploiting glitches, is going to be removed from that server forever.
Now imagine dozens and dozens of custom maps running on that server, which you will get for free, because IWs not making them. Then imagine entire communities and forums built around that one room (server). You recognize people who visit that same room, you befriend them, you have fun with these familiar folks.
The story goes on, and thats what were missing. All of it is gone.
At the time of writing there are 27,600 signature’s on this online petition. If you feel strongly about this issue head over there and sign it yourself. [UPDATE - 24 hours after writing this article there are now 76,087 signature's on the petition]

18 players?On PC there are servers for 64 players..that is real ground war..and with dedicated servers host migration isn’t necessary..also some ppl don’t live within close proximity so they won’t be able to play with themselves without lags..I don’t want to play with random ppl but with friends..couldn’t they leave online system of COD4 as it was?Why bother developing something new when old was perfectly good?As for PC sales you are right but if the game is worth it and has valuable online mode most ppl will buy it instead of pirating.Not to mention that IW is flushing down the toilet community on which it grew to what it is today. Also as a sidenote:playing FPS on console is a joke for kids who didn’t develop motoric function.

If you have read interview already,Although remove dedicated servers cause disater on PC gaming.
but if you read carefully there might be some good in it,And it too early to judge..because IW haven’t said anythings much about it.

Yikes. This is… painful. Especially if someone gets rated a “good” host for the “server”, but other reasons prevent them from being one. I have a friend with a wireless network connection; the pings he gets are very good (he normally joins games with a ping of around 30-40), but his wireless connection causes him to randomly disconnect and reconnect, despite his ping being really low. It even happens in LAN games.
What if he became the host, because of his awesome connection and low pings? Lag for everyone. Doesn’t help that he has a sub-par CPU, either. Despite all this, at a glance, he’d be a “good” host. And then the game is misery for everyone. And no-one, not even himself, is capable of doing ANYTHING about it.

R U seriously gonna sit there like playing fps on pc’s isn’t the easiest thing ever. Wow its so hard to point and click a headshot give me a break. PC Newbs could never hold it down on a console thats why they are stuck playing on crappy ass computers.

Click, headshot – applies to everyone. It’s basically the same on console, isn’t it? Once you’ve gotten used to it, you can easily adjust the aim on screen – I’ve spoke to a few console players who’ve said that they get destroyed on PC, despite being very good at the same game on a console. note, that physical movement is a much bigger factor when using the mouse – a slight twitch can throw your aim off enough to miss.
And yes, I have played MW on both PC and XBox 360 – I wouldn’t call the aiming on the console any harder – just takes a bit of getting used to.

You are correct sir, mouse and keyboard is superior to a controller.
This is why alot of pc users complain when the games get slowed down and dumbed down for you console folks.

really you guys are complaining about no mods or custom maps thats no reason to complain about you should complain about no multiplayer or bad lag but now that you cant mod that made PC game sales go down?
