Consumer Awareness Levels At 20%
It turns out that since Infinity Ward changed the name of their next first person shooter from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to simply Modern Warfare 2 only half as many gamers are aware of the game.
According to a new survey by tracking firm OTX, since Infinity Ward changed the name 40% of the gaming population knowing about the game dropped down to 20%.
“Up until the beginning of May, OTX had been tracking the title as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. More specifically, we asked a representative group of gamers in the U.S. whether or not they had heard of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. At that time, approximately 40 percent of all gamers in the U.S. claimed that they had heard of this title.
However, once it became clear that Activision was positioning the title as Modern Warfare 2, OTX removed ‘Call of Duty’ from the consumer survey, and the awareness levels dropped to 20 percent. In other words, the Call of Duty brand association essentially doubles the awareness for the game. That is quite a remarkable statistic.”

not surprising considering almost every cod excluding modern warfare 1 was based on WW2, a bit late to decide to drop the cod part in my opinion but that would be a long abbreviation. im psyched for this game either way!

True enough; I certainly find myself always adding the Call of Duty onto the front whenever I talk about it, even though the moniker has been dropped. But it’s completely believable that people recognize “Call of Duty” over “Modern warfare”, so it may be that the hype of the game is going slower without that added name on the front

personally i think thats is bull****. they tested a specific type of gamers which does not represent the rest of us. maybe they should put the call of duty in the small print in the back but activision can go f*** themselves.
