Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Strategy Guide Part 6 XP Experience Points
VI. Experience Points
A. Ranking Information Described
Multiplayer ranking is used for lots of things. Bragging rights, replayability, and unlockables are all based off your ranking online and even via split screen modes that you can play with friends.
B. Faster XP
The best way to increase your multiplayer level is with a full team of friends or players that you can communicate with. But, if you’re like me you don’t really have that option.
For solo play you should really focus on completing all the challenges for your favorite weapon types. For 300, 500, 750, and 1000 kills with each weapon you gain 10,000 experience points. That’s a bunch of points and they will go a long way to helping you climb that ranking ladder.
Although you may want to unlock those cool camouflages for your guns, the headshot challenges are probably the hardest to finish up. If you’ve managed to complete all challenges except for the headshots, you would do yourself a favor by switching weapons. It is much easier to just get regular kills for 10k XP than to spend the next 500 kills trying to get 25 headshots with a single weapon. Prioritize. Come back to that weapon later.
Always do your best not to kill your own teammates. For every teammate you kill you have 100 points deducted from your score. If you have 20 enemy kills on a map, but you’ve also managed to kill your teammates 20 times, you will have exactly 0 points.
If you like to play Team Deathmatch, make sure you start playing Team Deathmatch Express as soon as it is available to you. In TDE the rules are exactly the same. The difference is that you have less time between matches to play with your Custom Classes. This game type is extremely useful if you are trying to get as much XP as you possibly can in a set amount of time. Especially if regular Team Deathmatch is your niche.
C. Prestige
You will have the option to Prestige once you fill up your experience bar after level 70. Basically you would be level 71.
When you Prestige you start over from level 1. You’ll be able to keep all your earned Callsigns and Emblems, but you’ll have to unlock all weapons and attachments again from scratch. You’ll also be given an extra Custom Class slot, an Emblem that shows you are Prestiged and new Callsigns.
For each level of Prestige you’ll unlock a new Emblem and Custom Class slot. The Custom Class slots are worth it by themselves, in my opinion.
