Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Strategy Guide Glossery Of Terms
VIII. Glossary of Terms
1. ADS – “Aim Down Sights.” This is when you aim your weapon by using the sights, the Red Dot Sight, or the Holographic Sight. Basically, any time you hit the button that zooms in for an aim instead of just spraying and using the crosshairs.
2. Cooked or Cooking Grenades – When you hold down the button that throws a Grenade you will see your character pull the pin, but hold the Grenade in his hand. Once that pin is pulled an internal countdown starts before it explodes. This is used for a more controlled explosion since you can control when it does.
3. Hardcore – Hardcore matches are intended to give a more realistic gameplay experience. You have miniscule health, friendly fire is turned on, no weapon crosshairs, and you have no radar unless a UAV is called in for you or your team. Depending on the gun, it usually only takes 1-3 hits to die. Also, there is no instant respawn or killcam. You’ll have to wait anywhere from 1-15 seconds before you are back in the game.
4. Noob – Anyone that is new to a game. If you’re reading this you are probably a noob.
5. Noob Tube – A word used to describe Grenade and Missile Launchers because they require very little aiming and only need to get close for a kill.
6. FPS – “First Person Shooter.” The type of game where you are playing from the perspective on your characters head. The idea is to try an make it feel like you’re actually there. As a side note, there is a 3rd Person gameplay style on Modern Warfare 2.
7. 3rd Person Shooter – A shooter game that played from behind your character, allowing you to see what your character looks like as he performs his actions.
8. MW2 – Modern Warfare 2.
9. K/D or KDR – Kill/Death Ratio. How many kills you have in comparison to your deaths. Ideally, you want to have at least a 1.00 K/D ratio. That means you have 1 kill for every 1 death. Some people put a lot of stock in how many kills you have compared to how many deaths. I wouldn’t even worry about this until after you Prestige for the first time.
10. Glitch – A design flaw in the game that allows for people to cheat in some way. In MW2 it usually means they are outside of the map shooting in. This is considered cheating and I don’t recommend anyone try this except for as a joke or experience in a Private or Split Screen Match with friends. It has no place in online multiplayer.
