Modern Warfare 2 Final Hands On Write Ups

Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling has been on a multi-stop promotional tour of Europe over the last few weeks. With Modern Warfare 2 edging ever closer to release (25 days) it is the last chance for industry insiders and the media to get hands-on with the game before it hits the shelves. Most of the major gaming websites have started posting the final hands-on write ups today, here are the links you need.

  • Gamespot“There was a lot to like about the co-op mode: each player can select an independent difficulty level, and you can revive the other player if he’s killed by holding X for a few seconds (on the Xbox 360 version we played). That said, we were saddened to learn that there are no leaderboards, so you can’t try to beat your friends’ times–although Bowling admitted this could be added in an update.”

  • IGN“Infinity Ward mentioned to us that – while there’s plenty of amazing content to be found in the game’s single player mode – Special Ops is the new (and intense) third pillar of the Call of Duty franchise.”

  • Eurogamer“Pleasant surprise: Modern Warfare 2 makes a pretty decent arcade racer. That’s what it feels like anyway, when you’re blasting through the tundra on a jouncing skidoo, driven on by the constant barrage of time extends as you zip past one checkpoint after another, with the cartoony three-tone starting buzzer still sounding in your ears.”

  • Nowgamer – “The level, or section, or whatever you want to call it – we’re not sure the term ‘level’ really applies to many games anymore – comes slap-bang at the end of act one. As with Modern Warfare, the story is divided into three acts, with each act split into five or six sections.”
  • CVG – “Having already played MW2 we can testify that the game’s trademark controls have hardly changed in the sequel – one thing that was key in our initial appraisal – so it’s more the new locations, motivations, weapons and visual polish that we were noticing today.”
