How To Not Suck With The Riot Shield [GUIDE]

The Riot Shield in Modern Warfare 2 is a surprising addition to a Call of Duty game. Used well it can rack you up a lot of kills, but more importantly, help your team to get that win.
Riot Shields have more uses than just making a nuisance of yourself or having a laugh in Team Death Match. They are best used in objective game types like Capture the Flag or Sabotage. Riot Shields provide the perfect mobile cover for you, and maybe a team-mate, to sneak up and grab that objective right in front of your enemies faces. When you are heading back with the flag, the Riot Shield can also cover your back. Switch to your secondary and the shield will stop the bullets from the people chasing you hitting your back.
First thing you want is to have a good class for the Riot shield. This is probably the best one right here.
Primary Weapon: Riot Shield
Secondary Weapon: Any shotgun that you like
Equipment: Throwing knife (if you’re good with it) or Blast Shield if not
Special Grenades: Stuns
Perk 1: Marathon
Perk 2: Lightweight
Perk 3: Commando
It’s pretty basic but it works and it’s important to have a class with at least commando because sometimes i see Riot classes with completely random perks it seems like.
Ok now on how to actually use the shield.
1. ALWAYS keep your target in front of you! This sounds obvious but I see so many people who barely even look at the guy shooting at them. A lot of times people will try to run around you and knife you or shoot you. Try to follow their movements as best you can to make sure they can’t get around you. You will get the hang of it eventually, trust me.
2. Always crouch! Unless the person is new to the game or just stupid the first thing they are going to try is to attack your feet. Crouching fixes that problem. It’s good to sprint at them when they are reloading or trying to throw grenades at you as long as you make sure you crouch soon after sprinting for a few seconds because when your target gets ready to shoot again hes gonna screw you over badly if you keep sprinting.
3. Use your equipment. Your equipment is very important. Whether you’re using the Blast Shield or the Throwing Knife it’s important that you know how and when to use them because they can become a factor of life or death on your part.
Throwing Knife: Very useful if you can get good with them. More times than not your target will not expect you to be using these and will be surprised when you kill them with it. The trick to using these is using them at the right time and using them fast. Only use these when your enemy is reloading or throwing a grenade because otherwise you are giving him an easy opening and will probably die. You also have to make sure that you hold your knife for 2 seconds at most. Any longer than that is going to give your target enough time to start shooting at you. Another thing, make sure you actually have a chance to hit your target because if you try to throw it across the map it’s probably going to miss and you’re going to lose your knife. If your target turns around to run away that is the best time to use these things, try not to miss that opportunity. The second they turn around throw it right in their back.
Blast Shield: If you’re not good with the Throwing Knife or you just don’t like it then this is your other equipment option.The Blast Shield makes you more resistant to explosives. A lot of people think that the Blast Shield does nothing. That’s not true and i can remember countless time where this thing has saved me (before i moved over to the throwing knife). The thing with the Blast Shield is that you can’t see your radar when using it so only use it when you’re in the middle of a fight with someone (unless your in Hardcore then hell leave it on the whole game).
4. Take advantage of your enemies! There are way too many people who underestimate the Riot Shield so when they see you using it a lot of times they think “YAY FREE KILL” and run at you like gorillas. When this happens I usually laugh at them and give them the knife to the face or a good Riot Shield beating.
5. Cover your team mates! Where possible you should also use your Riot Shield to cover your team mates. For example, if your team mate is planting the bomb in Search and Destroy or returning the flag in Capture the Flag, give him some cover. You never know where an enemy could pop out from and you will make his job of killing the bomb planter so much more difficult (and the planters job a lot easier). Communicate and work as a team to complete your objective.
6. Ignore annoying people! Trust me at least once a game you will get some pissed off idiot that starts screaming random swears and things like “OMG WHY ARE USING THE RIOT SHIELD YOU FAG?!”. Just laugh at them when at the end of the game they went terribly negative and it was all because of “The Riot Shield fag”.
OK well that’s pretty much it. I covered the basics that you need to know to be a master at Riot shielding. Now remember that all these skills come with practice so it’s not going to come to you just like that. Now go out and pwn some nubs and have fun

Trust me on this get a riot shield with a magnum w. tactical knife and stun grenades.f**k throwing knife and blast shield you want to have c4 for efficiency. You see someone, back up and angle the throw because the c4 is heavy and to throw it far you have to nearly look at the top of the screen. I swear people complain so much about me using my stun grenades run up to them switch to my secondary and tac. knife them or when i chase them down with stun grenades to stick a c4 above his head.
Then choose scavenger pro, danger close pro and commando pro. Too beast.Oh yeah and if you detonate the c4 with the RB it will show your detonating arm but to bypass this once you throw the c4 quickly tap reload/X button TWICE and it will not expose your detonating arm.Fact

Okay You Are All on a buzz for the new Stimulus Pack On Modern warfare 2
but that isn’t the only thing that is on the downloadable content,there are new Avatar items for eg: Night Vision Goggles,Ghost Outfit, Riot Shields (ETC) if you look in the avatar Marketplace go on game styles then click Modern Warfare 2 there is a bunch load of things you can buy the most expensive thing would be the Stimulus Pack but that doesn’t mean dont buy it.

Thanks for all of the tips. When i play mw2 with my clan we have a setup which works almost every game. When we play S&D in a party our setup for our team is 2 people using riot shield, akimbo usp, C4 or throwing knife, Scavenger, Cold-blooded, ninja. the other two teammates use intervention usually or tar 21 silenced depending on the map. When we communicate and work as a team we can win almost every game. Our usual gameplan when we are defending the bomb is we like to hang back near our spawn and wait for them to come to us because there is no point rushing them when they have auto assault rifles. We use the riot shields as both a lure and cover for our snipers.

The Riot Shield is nice, much more useful if you have a buddy with you. The common instinct is to shoot the guy with the shield, giving your buddy a chance to shoot the enemy.

(also a fun little thing i found out…..if an enemy puts up a sentry gun, dont kill it right a way….sit in front of it and your score will go up and up and up…….you know….unless there is an enemy in plain sight

I had this with a harrier once in the subbase map.. It kept shooting at me, and only at me. And I got like 8k+ on the sponge-thing in the barracks.

Riot Shield, RPG, Scavenger, Danger Close, Ninja, Stuns and Semtex.
Danger close makes semtex and RPG multikill machines.
Word on Terminal, i have this riot class specifically designed for terminal, once went 32-4 with it.
also works well on wasteland in the caves.

@Bioforce, only difference is, i use c4 instead of semtex, i love to sit in a corner and wait for ppl to try and knife me or something else stupid since they can shoot me, and then i detonate it, shield saves me, but they fry

Don’t aim with your throwing knife. Find a mark on your shield that you can line up with your enemy. Then you just TAP your throw button and the knife goes out real quick, while exposing you for the minimum amount of time. You can practice this in split-screen, to work out your exact aiming spot.
When you throw stun grenades, throw them from behind cover, or back up around a corner first. This lets you throw them without exposing yourself.

If uve perfected the throwing knife and stun grenades try this: Perks:Scavenger,lightwieght,commando(pro) and any secondary.Throw a stun grenade at a person throw the knife at him while hes stunned ,scavenge him and repeat.ILsaw this guy get a kill streak in 5 sec with this tactic.its awesome ………………….another one-want 2 level up faster?Works best on noobs:smash a guy ONCE only and if he goes like “OMG what the hell was that “and continues running throw a stun AT HIM -it should hit him!1\and u get like 10,000 points or somethin if u do it right and he dies!!!!!!!!!!———–PS. if any1 wants to boost on xbox add me-th3punish3r 99 and send me a message ! lol

theres only one problem i have with everything you just said, i think that if you have to use the throwing knife for a riot shield class, you really arent using the riot shield are you? no, you’re trying to pass off as a good riot shielder by telling yourself that the throwing knife makes you unstoppable. if you’re a riot shielder with the throwing knife, how about switching to the blast shield for a while and see if you do nearly as good? or running around using throwing knives only? 5 bucks you dont do as good as with the throwing knife riot shield. oh, and no disrespect, when i first bought the game i was a riot shielder with a throwing knife, until i realised the when it came to using the riot shield without one, i sucked so badly, cos i didnt realise how much i depended on the throwing knife until i just was dying too much, i guess you could say i was arrogant. (:

I begg to differ about how great a riot sheild is…yeah they cant kill u when ur crouched…NOT! I was using a riot shield on the air port one and i was crouched going at this one guy….turns out if they lay down they can shoot and hit your feet… =(

Honestly, when ifirst saw people using the riot shield i thought, “what a fag” but now i have TWO PERFECT riot shield classes. Heres one of them…
My class includes:
Primary: Riot Shield (duh)
Secondary: RPG
Equipment: C4
Special Grenade: Smoke (to confuse them while u throw the C4)
Perk 1:Marathon Pro
Perk2:Danger Close Pro
Perk 3:Commando Pro
P.S. It works! Try It! Its especially effective in Quarry and Wasteland!

hi guys ive been playing alot of time with my riot shield and i have a class that is awsome in domination and demolition :
primary: Riot shield
Secondary: magnum44 or m9 tacticals
equipment: semtex
Special granades: stuns granades
Perks:
Blue: scavenger
Red: coldbloded
green: comando
kill streak: pain killers
is the best for me ive done a game 27/13 with that class and its works couse you are the bomer and u can capture easy the flag is realy nice try it

I just started using the Riot Shield today and I am already seeing improvements in how I play. Plus, it is easy to get 10K exp just by blocking bullets for 2-3 matches. Also, people run away when I come in with a shield.

i use the riot sheild alot. use c4, and scavenger… also w danger close. this will keep getting you kills on and on, bc ppl will come bck to where you killed them, all you do is his square or x twice and boom theres 100 points and a scavenger bag! see wingsofredemptions youtube vid for more tips.

i got an 8 kill streak with A RIOT SHIELD AND THE USP!!!!
Then the match ended, i used SoH Pro, SP Pro & Last Stand ( for if i died) on terminal with USP FMJ and killstreaks of 5,7,9

the reason i used the USP was I was after attatchments for it and thought that would do well, and it did! that is the highest killstreak I ever had apart from the one my friend got in search for me (11) but now i use scavenger pro with this class

Nice review. It made me laugh because of the “YAY FREE KILL” thing because I always think that when I see a guy with a riot shield. I’ve never really tried it myself but it’s fun killing the noobs that try to use it so I’m a good challenge for beginners (haha).
I’m bound to get killed a lot trying riot shield class, but I’ll give this a go. At least it’ll give me a chance to get some challenges completed. Thanks

why is no one using one man army pro with this class? yeah it replaces your secondary but the unlimited c4 and stun grenades is awesome. works really well on domination. when playing search and destroy, try this one; riot shield with one man army, danger close, commando, with a claymore and smoke. sit in a busy corner with 2 claymores down and just keep switching to the same class with OMA. keep throwing smoke, and the enemy will walk not knowing there is a claymore there. kill and repeat

Thanks from amazing hints, and listen my own one:
-if you are using riot shield try to get down of the stairs if the
enemy is up for the stairs, usually they only shoot you or try
make you blind with flash, but in stairs your advantage is that enemy
can’t shoot your feet so easily if you are crouching on stairs and going upwards this is important because when you move is pretty easy
to be shooted from legs (even if you crouch).
-If you have blast shield and enemy throws on you a semtex just sprint
on him and hit once to get close (he will surely die)
-Always avoid multiple contacts in open lands: because 2 enemies can easily kill you in maps like scrapyard, try always find easy way to kill them (or at least other one), i think that best ways to do this is stun grenade.

-magnum/striker/raffica w tactical knife
-blast shield
-stuns
-marathon pro
-lightweight pro
-commando pro
-deathstreak: painkiller/martydom/final stand (shield protects your back when you are on the ground)

When using the riot shield have your secondary as a HANDGUN as you may know when using any gun switching to your hand gun is fast very fast so if you can unlock akimbo or any attachment for your handgun you will have a large advantage when in awkward situations

If you have a handgun as a secondry you can wait for the enemy to reload/stop and then whip it out in under a second and kill him before he has a chance to lift up his weapon. I found this easy to do.

Throwing C4 then double tapping X to make it explode in the air is very effective.
My first time trying it I played Search and Destroy in Sub Base and got a double kill with it. I died after that but it was cool lol. My favorite Riot Shield class that I am most effective with is…
Primary: Riot Shield
Secondary: Any Pistol
Equipment: C4
Special Grenade: Stun
Perk 1: Scavenger
Perk 2: Stopping Power
Perk 3: Commando
I use a pistol because I can switch to it from my Riot Shield very fast and kill someone. I use scavenger for if I use my C4 I can go over a dead body and get another one. I use Stopping Power for my pistol because I use the USP which has low damage. You can also substitute Stopping Power for Danger Close if you get really good with the C4 and use it a lot. I use Commando for close encounters when I can’t use my C4 or switch to my pistol without dying, and then I bash the guy to death. This is especially useful in Hardcore matches where one Riot Shield bash kills an enemy instead of them taking 2 bashes. This is the setup that I use. Everyone is different and you have to find which one works for you. Also, I don’t use cold-blooded because I sometimes like t camp in a room with C4 by the entrance then make the guy come to me and detonate it, scavenger, and repeat. This works well on Skidrow up in the sniper room. I also don’t use cold-blooded because if there is a harrier or helicopter, I like to sit with my riot shield and let it hit me to get the Sponge challenge completed (absorb 50000 points of damage). Instead of C4, you can also use a throwing knife which has it’s positives and negatives. You can throw it very fast and it is an instant kill, not to mention you can pick it up again after you throw it. However, if you miss someone….. Yeah.

Special Grenade: Smoke or Stun; Smoke so they don’t know where you throw the C4, or Stun to slow them down when they are to far away

Perk 2: Danger Close; for C4, or Hardline because it’s easy to get killstreaks
Perk 3: Commando Pro
Death Streak: Martyrdom; if you use Danger Close, or Painkiller; if you use Hardline

Equipment: Claymore
Special Grenade: Anything
Perk 1: One Man Army PRO
Perk 2: Danger Close PRO

I use this class in Domination and I have gotten three legit Nukes doing this. HaHa, I’m 8th prestige and I use very nooby setups.

Hey guys. Since I’ve gotten MW2, well, found out it was an amazing game, and played it almost 24/7. After awhile, I realised that guns are WAY too overated, and people weren’t using the riotshield. So, I decided to make a difference in the CoD6 community. I own my own Riotshield Clan , which goes by [RiOT] (yes, I know people go around using it, its either they’ve been recruited already, or they’re just some noobs who aren’t using the usual “R!OT” tag), and renowned myself as, I guess, one of well known riotshielders of this time. I dunno but, ever since I started using it, the use of the riotshield kind of spread, kind of making me less unique, but it kind of helped the community a bit. If you don’t believe me, add me up, and watch me rape s**t up on any map with a, well, riotshield. This includes killing snipers on Wasteland. ^^

Me, I had a 31 killstreak (Didn’t have a nuke in my killstreak) by constantly bashing foes with the shield. Gotta say, you don’t actually need teammates if you are smart enough to courner enemies. I can easily take on 2 enemies with the shield. It’s simple, just practise!
